Saalfelden is located in the middle of Austria’s largest bike region! Here, everyone will find the right bike tour for their ability and fitness.
Do you like cycling in the valley on (easy) bike paths? Maybe with children? Then cycle on one of the many bike routes with a variety of difficulty levels through the Salzburg Pinzgau.
The famous “Tauern Cycle Path” in particular, with several hundred kilometers, always offers a suitable section for you. Or explore the mountains in the region by mountain bike or e-bike.
Many signposted routes offer fantastic views and cozy alpine huts as the destination. You can also sweep down the 90 km of lines and trails in the “EPIC Bike Park”. 12 routes of all difficulty levels challenge you here! Or try out downhilling in the “Riders Playground” for kids and adults.
Hiking & climbing
The region around Saalfelden offers countless mountain routes for young and old, for beginners and advanced, for hikers and climbers.
Here you will find easy hikes in the valley that beginners or parents with children can easily manage. However, you can also choose an alpine pasture or a summit as your destination. You determine the length of the hike and the level of difficulty, perhaps with an easy via ferrata?!
Climbers will find climbing routes of all levels of difficulty in the region, from easy to challenging climbing tours!
We recommend that you treat yourself to culinary delights in one of the cozy mountain inns or a managed alpine hut – the perfect reward for the climb!
Water fun in any weather
A holiday in Saalfelden in the beautiful Salzburg region is not complete without water sports or relaxing by the water.
In Saalfelden you will find a large swimming pool and the warm Ritzensee. In Saalfelden and the region you can swim, dive, sail, surf, kitesurf, go pedal boating or kayaking, SUP or fish.
You can also take a tour on one of the excursion boats on the beautiful Zeller See. If the weather isn’t perfect for a short time, you can visit the indoor pool in Zell am See (15 minutes away by car) or the Tauernspa Kaprun thermal baths (25 minutes away by car).
And for brave holidaymakers there are also interesting sports on the rivers and in the gorges – such as rafting, canyoning or river tubing.

Children love the indoor playground and the various themed playgrounds in the valley and on the mountain. The slide path in Neukirchen is an attraction for hiking with children. The Jump & Slide Park in Saalbach also inspires enthusiasm among the youngsters.
Or take the Glemmtal treetop path with the Golden Gate bridge. Or visit the National Park Worlds in Mittersill. The Krimml Waterfalls – the third highest waterfalls in Europe – are also suitable for a day trip.

Harvest Festival - "5th Season"
There is a very special time in Saalfelden and the Salzburg region, namely the “5th season”, the Harvest Festival.
From mid-August to the end of October you can take part in the farming customs after the harvest. During this time you have the opportunity to get to know traditional farming life at cattle drives, harvest festivals, local evenings, village and farm festivals, craft demonstrations, cooking courses or in the traditional costume tailoring workshop.
